The Atlas is included on the website as a set of individual published map files (PMF). Each map file contains basic map layers, including:

  • Province, District and Commune, and Green Corridor boundaries
  • Rivers, water bodies, coastline
  • Roads
  • Elevation, slope, hillshade
  • Protected areas and proposed Saola Reserve
  • Forest Sector and Sub-sector boundaries

In addition to the basic map layers, the following maps are provided in the GIS Atlas.

Before you can use an ArcReader Atlas, you need to download the data to your computer hard drive.

Next, follow the steps below:

  • Unzip the GISData.zip to access the maps;
  • Start ArcReader;
  • Click on the Open Map button Open Map; and
  • Navigate, to the folder where you copied the data and open the \Data\PMF directory, which contains the published map files. Select the map you would like to view and click Open.

Note, the Earth Observation and Geographic Information Toolkit was originally developed as a CD-ROM. If you would like a copy of the CD-ROM, please contact the Green Corridor Project.

Staff from the Forest Protection Department, Forest Inventory and Planning Group, Forest Inventory and Planning Sub-Institute conduct a field survey. The data collected were used as part of the production of a new forest map based on satellite imagery.
