We invite you to come and discover Hue’s newest tourism destination: A Luoi!

ImageBest known for its famous historical landmark from the American War, Hamburger Hill, A Luoi has many exciting and unique sites and activities to offer.

You can learn about the way of life of the Ta Oi and Pa Ko people; go trekking in forests home to the recently discovered Saola, and many other unique species; walk in the footsteps of those in the American war… Discover A Luoi in One Day, One Night and One Adventure!

This initiative is implemented by the Bureau of Industry and Trade of A Luoi District with the support of the Forest Protection Department of Hue Province, SNV Netherlands Development Organisation, and the WWF Green Corridor Project’s ‘ Linking Livelihoods and Forest Conservation’ Grant scheme.

Tourist and Tour Operator Codes of Conduct Tourism is a new activity in this remote area, which brings benefits for local communities. SNV, WWF and A Luoi District communities and government are ensuring that tourism activities will not damage traditional culture or the the rich forests that they depend on.

ImageWe are supporting community based tourism and ecotourism iniatives that are sustainable, appropriate to the area and provide benefits to the local people.

As a tour operator or tourist you also have an active role in minimising your negative impacts on the local people and environment of A Luoi.

Please follow the regulations and codes of conduct of the district and the villages you visit. Please:
  • - Respect the local culture and traditions
  • - Protect the local environment by not removing plants; orchids for example should be left in the forest
  • - Please do not eat wildlife meat
  • - Maintain the villages and environment clean: do not litter, and if possible take your garbage back with you.

Sustainable Tourism in A Luoi District

A Luoi district is located in Thua Thien Hue Province, only 70 km from Hue city. It is blessed with beautiful landscapes, rich wildlife and nature, and the colourful traditional cultures of several ethnic groups. A Luoi is also thesite of many battles during the American war.

At the moment the areas of A Roang and A Bia are now welcoming tourists. Some of the activities and services that can be enjoyed include:

Experience village life and unique cultures
  • - Overnight stays at Ta Oi communal houses
  • - Local, Vietnamese and vegetarian food service
  • - Explore the Ta Oi sticky rice cake and local palm wine
  • - Cultural shows of music and dance
  • - Observe and learn about local handicraft production, like Det Zeng textile weaving.

  • - Visiting American war sites, like Hamburger Hill, A Shau airbase and Hong Bac Tunnels
  • - Travel along the famous Ho Chi Minh trail

Stunning landscapes and nature

  • - Spectacular views from the Ho Chi Minh (HCM) highway overlooking the Green Corridor forests, an area of international conservation importance, home to gibbons and Saola
  • - Trekking with local guides to the forests and Hamburger Hill
  • - Learn about non-timber forest products and how these are important for local communities
  • - With luck see a flying squirrel, or hear endangered gibbons and rare pheasants, or see many of the amazing plants and wildlife
  • - Relax or have a picnic near one of the cooling waterfalls (but please don’t spoil for others and follow the Codes of Conduct)

A Roang Forest Trek (2 days/1 night)

Day 1: A Roang

ImageTravel to A Roang and arrive for lunch. Afterwards walk around the village to learn about Ta Oi way of life – weaving (cloth/bamboo/rattan) demonstration, agricultural activities, cooking, visit local school, hot spring. In the evening, enjoy dinner and a cultural show. Overnight at the traditional communal house.

Day 2: Forest trekking in A Roang

After breakfast, set out on forest trek and have lunch in the forest. Afterwards, depart for your next destination, stopping at Chi Lanh weaving village of A Dot commune and along HCM highway on the way, including A Shau airbase.

Hamburger Hill Tour (2 days/1 night)

Day 1: A Hua

Travel to A Hua village and arrive for lunch. Afterwards walk around the village to learn about Ta Oi way of life – weaving (cloth/bamboo/rattan) demonstration, agricultural activities, cooking, visit local school. In the evening, enjoy dinner and cultural show. Overnight at the communal house

Day 2: Hamburger Hill trek

After breakfast trek to Hamburger Hills, and return to the village for lunch. Afterwards, depart for your next destination, stopping at Chi Lanh weaving village of A Dot commune and along HCM highway on the way, including A Shau airbase.


A Roang & Hamburger Hill: 3 days/2 nights

This trip combines the trips to A Roang and Hamburger Hill.
